What will be announced at the hybrid "CES 2022"?4 points to note

Since the arrival of the new coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, the kind of journalism that introduces "what to expect" has fallen into an ironic situation. Previously, headlines such as "What can you expect from that huge exhibition? No one knows it!" Were lined up, but now it's like "I don't even know if it will be held!".

However, the event has been confirmed. The exhibition is the world's largest consumer electronics trade fair, "CES," held annually in the large-scale event of Las Vegas, Nevada. This time it will be a hybrid event both in the real world and online.

We do not yet know the exact number of tech companies, marketers and analysts who are willing to actually participate in the venue. And at the venue in the real world, you will be required to show your vaccination certificate.

The last real CES event was held in January 2020, with an estimated 170,000 participants. Last year, 2021, it was held completely online. It wasn't a lot of fun, but it wouldn't be fun to participate while avoiding virus particles in a crowded casino.

Realistic exhibitions are drastically reduced, the session is shortened

When interviewed by the organizer, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) in mid-December, the CTA did not disclose the number of registered participants for this year's event. This time around, a number of major tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Lenovo, Intel, T-Mobile, AT & T, Meta Platforms, TikTok and Pinterest, have declined to exhibit.

In response, more than 150 companies have announced that they will participate "digital only." And a few days ago, the CTA reduced the four-day period to three days, one less. The reason is pandemic concerns.

"The general trend these days for exhibitions is that the number of attendees is around 30-50% in recent years," said Jean Foster, senior vice president of marketing at CTA. "This time, if the final number of participants is about 50%, it can be said that it is a relatively good number."

What we know is that all keynotes on stage will be delivered live to remote participants. This year, the focus will be on several emerging technology areas, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for digital assets.

The automotive sector has become even more important than in recent years, with keynote speeches by General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra and US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Digital health will continue to receive the highest attention.

In addition, all home appliances will be equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), and notebook PC makers will strive to attract consumers' interest. There should also be even bigger and brighter displays (many people may be tired of exhibiting displays in the last two years).

Some of them may be seen through the displays we use ourselves. That's because the US version of "WIRED" has decided to cover this CES remotely.

1: Focus on new fields such as space and agriculture

One of the new fields in "CES 2022" is "Space Tech". The current "space race" was the trigger to create this area, says CTA Foster.
