「貧困は人が作ったもの、 人類の行動によって根絶できる」ビル・ゲイツがネルソン・マンデラ記念講演に登壇
Encounter with Nelson Mandela
Bill Gates: Thank you.Good evening everyone.Glasa Machel, Professor Delley. And Mamelody's family, friends, and senior officials.
There is no further honor to be able to give a lecture with the name of Nelson Mandela.I am very interested in the theme of this year's lecture called “symbiosis”.
“Symbiosis” is a perfect word.Because it is the life of Nelson Mandela itself. The system he fought was on the other side.Separation of people and the surface difference is more important than human commonality.
Today, South African people are struggling to coexist, but they are approaching the ideal.Because Nelson Mandela and others believe in South Africa's oath.
(Venue applause)
I was 9 years old when Nelson Mandela was sent to Robin Island. When I learned him at school, I remembered the usual apartheid news at night.
I first talked to him in 1994 and wanted to help a South African election fund.I was running Microsoft at the time and engaged in software, but I decided to help because I longed for him and knew that this election would be historic.
My first trip to South Africa was in 1993, a year ago, when I traveled to my wife Melinda and East Africa.
The scenery was beautiful and the people were friendly, but poverty was the first time we witnessed, but it was unpleasant. And I was motivated.
I knew that some Africa were poverty, but such abstractions turn fraudulently. We could not ignore the facts.Melinda and I knew that would give wealth to philanthropic activities, but I saw obvious unfairness and thought about how to start acting quickly.
This urgent feeling spurred the first time as Microsoft's representative to Johannesburg in 1977.
