"Microsoft Edge 90" is now stable-equipped with a new download UI and password monitor-Window Forest

The United States Microsoft released the latest stable (Stable) version v90.0.818.39 of "Microsoft Edge" on April 15 (local time). In Edge 90, Kids Mode is now available for Windows / Mac in English (US) environment, and a password monitor is generally available to all users.

Kids Mode is a protected online environment that you can use to get your kids to browse the web on your shared PC. According to the company's survey, about 50% of parents in the United States give their children their digital devices to play when they can't take their hands off for housework or work. There is a need for a parental control solution that can be used temporarily in these cases.

Kids mode is available by simply clicking on your account profile in the upper right corner of Edge and selecting the Browse in Kids Mode command. At that time, you can choose the age range of the child (5 to 8 years old and 9 to 12 years old). I would like to expect expansion in Japan.

Password Monitor, on the other hand, warns users that website passwords have been leaked and traded on the dark web. It has been introduced to "Google Chrome" and "Firefox" and has been well received, and "Edge" has been announced for some time.

In the case of "Edge", if you go to the [Profile]-[Password] section of the setting screen, the option [Display an alert when a password is found in an online leak] is available. If you go to the result display screen (edge: // settings / passwords / passwordMonitor), you can scan the password stored in "Edge" to see if it matches the password that has been confirmed to be leaked. If you see a leak alert or find a password match, we recommend that you update your password with a new one as soon as possible.

In addition, a new pop-up style Download UI is available. It can be used from the [Settings, etc.] (“…” icon)-[Download] menu, and you can check the progress of the download in a pop-up from the toolbar, or pin it as a side panel to list the download status.

Also, autofill candidates have been strengthened. When you click a web form, the contents copied to the clipboard can now be displayed as input candidates for auto-completion, and even if the form or field is not detected, you can enter "//" to select auto-fill candidates. You can now search. This search function is convenient because the input field is not recognized as a field of name, address, or phone number, and it can be used even when autofill does not work.

In addition, font rendering has also been improved, and it has been improved to reduce blurring and draw with high visibility.

Improvements for the enterprise include the availability of single sign-on (SSO) for Azure Active Directory (AAD) accounts and macOS Microsoft accounts (MSA). Kiosk mode now locks down the UI print settings, allows only preset printers and PDF print options, and has been improved to limit the launch of other applications from a web browser. It also adds a new print rasterization mode for non-PostScript printers and a page scaling option when printing.

There are 19 security-related fixes based on CVE numbers. The content is the same as that dealt with in the latest stable version v90.0.4430.72 of "Google Chrome", and the maximum severity is "High". Two zero-day vulnerabilities have been resolved in Edge the day before, so don't forget to update.

"Microsoft Edge" based on "Chromium" is compatible with Windows / Mac and is currently available for free download from the official website. If you are already using the new Microsoft Edge, you don't need to do anything because it will be updated automatically. If you want to update manually, access the [Help and Feedback]-[About Microsoft Edge] screen (edge: // settings / help) from the menu (“…” icon) at the top left of the screen. You may not receive the update immediately, in which case you should try again later.

In addition, the old "Edge" based on "EdgeHTML" was abolished by Microsoft's monthly security update in April 2021 (excluding some Windows 10 versions), and it was unified to "Chromium" base. Please note that it will not be available in the future.
