Mercedes AMG's first EV, "EQS 53 4MATIC +" ... European release
On December 20, Mercedes-Benz released Mercedes AMG's first commercial EV, Mercedes AMG "EQS 53 4MATIC +" (Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4MATIC +) in the European market. The base price in Germany is 152,546 euros (about 19.7 million yen).
◆ 0-100km/h acceleration is 3.4 seconds
The EQS 53 4MATIC + is a high-performance version developed based on the EV equivalent to the S-class, the EQS. A total of two motors are installed in the front and rear, generating a maximum output of 658 hp and a maximum torque of 96.8 kgm. The optional "AMG Dynamic Plus Package" raises maximum output to 761hp and maximum torque to 104kgm in "RACE START mode" with boost function.
Equipped with variable "AMG Performance 4MATIC +". The system distributes drive torque continuously between the front and rear axles, depending on the driving situation. Torque distribution varies depending on the selected driving mode. Comfort mode focuses on efficiency. In Sport and Sport+ modes, torque distribution is shifted closer to the rear wheels for better lateral dynamics.
The EQS 53 4MATIC+ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (3.4 seconds with the AMG Dynamic Plus package) at 80% battery charge level. The maximum speed is limited to 220km/h (250km/h for the AMG Dynamic Plus package) by a limiter.
◆ Up to 586 km cruising range on a single charge
The EQS 53 4MATIC+ is equipped with a powerful 400 volt new generation battery with the latest lithium-ion technology. The power storage capacity is 107.8 kWh. The battery management system is tuned exclusively for AMG. The 'Sport' and 'Sport+' driving modes focus on performance, while the Comfort mode focuses on range. The new generation of batteries will feature significantly higher energy densities than their predecessors. It also has a large storage capacity. As a new feature, updates to the battery management system can be installed over the air. The maximum cruising range on a single charge is 586km (WLTP cycle).
The new generation of batteries boasts significantly reduced charging times. The battery can be charged at a DC fast charging station with a maximum output of 200kW. In this case, the battery capacity for a maximum 300km cruising (WLTP cycle) can be charged in 19 minutes. If you use an on-board charger, you can charge your vehicle with AC with a maximum output of 22 kW at home or at a public charging station. In Japan, it supports bi-directional charging. In addition, there is an intelligent charging program that can be automatically activated depending on the location. Features like battery-friendly charging make charging even more efficient.
The driver can adjust the level of regenerative braking in three stages using a switch on the steering wheel. It is also possible to receive optimal support according to the situation with the "ECO Assistant". Equipped with the optional "DRIVEPILOT", it detects a vehicle traveling ahead and automatically decelerates until it stops at a traffic light.
◆ Black panel grill for exclusive use of AMG
The exterior is equipped with "DIGITAL LIGHT" headlamps as standard equipment. The AMG-specific black panel grille features chrome hot-stamped vertical struts and the AMG logo. The intake area of the front bumper is painted in gloss black with chrome trim.
It features a high-gloss black front lip spoiler with chrome trim, air intake flicks and fins, and high-gloss black air curtains with chrome trim. The AMG side sill panels are also finished in high-gloss black. The rear bumper incorporates a diffuser with six vertical fins.
At the rear, a large spoiler has been fitted to improve driving dynamics. It reduces rear lift without increasing drag. Equipped with 21-22 inch AMG aluminum wheels in aero or heritage design. The side air intake contributes to improving the running efficiency of the vehicle. The air curtain effect concentrates the air flow and sends it in front of the front wheels. This reduces air resistance around the front wheels and has a positive effect on cruising range.
◆ Sporty interior unique to Mercedes AMG
The interior has been designed to be typical of AMG. AMG seats with exclusive graphics are combined with artificial leather "ARTICO" with microfiber "MICROCUT" and red contrast topstitching. Nappa leather seats are available as an option.
Additionally, space gray ARTICO with 'NEOTEX' grain and red topstitching is used for the instrument panel and beltline. Black MICROCUT with red topstitching is applied to the center panel of the door and the connecting part from the center console to the dashboard.
In addition to the standard AMG steering wheel, a choice of Nappa leather AMG Performance steering wheel in a flat-bottom design with paddles for regenerative braking is available. AMG sports pedals, AMG floor mats and door sill trims are also available.
