Did you know that there are no mobile phone numbers in Canada? |"Overseas mobile phone situation" taught by a Canadian mobile phone shop [Part 12]

That's right, Canada doesn't have 090 or 080 like Japan. You can turn your landline number into a mobile number and vice versa. That's because the concept of Canadian phone numbers is controlled by "area codes" (area codes).

1. We often hear about local calls, but what exactly are they?

Local calls mainly refer to Greater Toronto in the case of Toronto. It is a number that can be called as it is when making a call. When calling a non-local number, even within Canada, you must add "1" to the country code before dialing the phone number. For example, calling Vancouver from Toronto is a long distance area.

2. Greater Toronto's area codes are 416, 647, 437 (as of October 2019)

Looking at the history, the originally used 416 became full, and in 2001, 647 has been released. However, due to the increase in population, the new area code will be full in just a little over 10 years. 437 will be released in 2013. Now you can use your 24 Million number effectively. In the future, 382 and 942 are reserved as area codes for Toronto.

3. Should I change my phone number if I move out of my local area?

There is no problem if you are moving within the same local area, but if the area number is different, change the number according to the new address. Contact your mobile carrier and they will tell you how to do it. The process is easy and can be completed in 15 minutes. You may not have to pay long distance charges to live at your new address, and best of all, it's easier to make local calls to each other.

How did you like the Canadian phone number system? Recently, there have been an increasing number of requests to migrate landline numbers to mobile phones. Make good use of it and have a fun mobile life!
