lifehacker Lifehacker Lifehacker Lifehacker How to reset and initialize an old Mac that doesn't know the password
This week's Tech 911 will work on interesting problems with personal computers from people.
Parents, older brothers, neighbors can be, but I don't think it's wonderful if you have a generous older acquaintance who will give you a variety of devices, such as laptops and smartphones. What?
Unfortunately, I don't have such a person, but it seems that Lifehacker reader Kyle is there.
It's always nice and grateful to get it, but Kyle has been a little struggling with what I recently got and asked for help.
You can reset the factory shipping status
I guess at least the first half of this question means "how to log in if there is no user name and password".
But this question has a more significant meaning.
"How can other people have access to a computer locked?"
Thankfully, you don't have to worry if you have to have an excellent recovery tool or password analysis.
Your ultimate goal is not to log in to your own account, but to use a system that has previously created that account.
In other words, reset a used Mac to the state of the factory, set it as if it were a completely new system, and then clear the login problem.
Procedure to easily reset a Mac
Here are some simple ways to initialize Mac.
However, it is assumed that the previous owner of the Mac did not set the firmware password. If so, it would be quite complicated.
The simple method is to start "MacOS restore" when turning on the Mac.
(1) As soon as the power is turned on, press the “Command + R” key and keep pressing on the screen until something (usually the Apple logo or rotating globe) is displayed.
(2) Release the key when it is displayed.
(3) Even if "MacOS Restore" is started, the "MacOS Utility" window does not come out, but instead a similar window for entering the user's password is displayed, "Recovery Assistant (Recovery Assistant).Click and select "Erase Mac".
(4) Click the blue hyperlink called "Erase Mac" and delete it.
(5) The system is now erased and you can set a new MacOS from the beginning (use your favorite username and password).
(3 ') If the basic "MacOS Utility" window comes out, launch "Disc Utility", select a drive with macOS, and click "Erase".
(4 ') After finishing, the disk utility ends.
(5 ') Returning to "MacOS Utility", there is a convenient menu called "MacOS reinstalled", so reinstall it from there.
How to reset iCloud
It would be nice if the person who gave me a Mac disable iCloud (and the function to search for devices), but if not, reset the Mac NVRAM/Pram to disable this function. You can do it.
That way, sign in to the iCloud account, and you'll be able to set this Mac as if you were your own.
(You can also log in to iCloud without resetting NVRAM/Pram and connect your iCloud account with the erased system. I will try both).
The preparation is now on the best. You should be able to use the newly obtained Mac.Please, try it.
