The smartwatch, which is said to be under development by Meta, which changed its name from Facebook, is said to be equipped with a front camera and a screen with rounded corners. Bloomberg reported on October 28, US time. It was revealed from an image of a device found in one of the company's iPhone apps.
Is it Meta's new smartwatch? Courtesy: Steve Moser via BloombergThe image smartwatch has a front camera under the display and a control button on the right side of the casing. App developer Steve Moser said he found the image. Bloomberg reports that it was found in Meta's app for controlling the Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses released by Facebook in September.
The display is similar in shape to that of the Apple Watch, but with a front-facing camera is likely to make a big difference from its major competitors. Some smaller manufacturers make smartwatches with cameras, but Apple and Samsung don't. Samsung's "GALAXY Gear" released in 2013 was equipped with a 1.9 megapixel camera.
The widely rumored smartwatch is also expected to have two cameras for taking pictures and videos, as well as health features such as a heart rate monitor. According to Bloomberg, it may be released in 2022.
Facebook has publicly discussed its commitment to wristband-type technologies that can read neural signals, detect hand and finger movements, and provide haptic feedback. The company said it would like to work with augmented reality (AR) smart glasses, which it plans to offer in the future.
A Meta spokeswoman declined to comment on this image.
